TOPIC INFORMAL NEWSLETTER No 16, 18 April 2003
Greetings one and all
Just a brief reminder that we have another big evening coming up:
Thursday April 24 it is Bill Jones and Sarah Wright. Bill has risen rapidly in the ranks of folk-singers-made good, and regularly has them queuing at Folk Clubs roundabout. Her voice is really something to be seen. At risk of repeating myself (pause for cut and paste - note resultant font change). April 24 - Bill Jones and Sarah Wright. Bill originally hails from Sunderland, and studied Jazz at University. Hence the catholic mixture of what she provides: mostly traditional arrangements, ballads, love songs; but the occasional surprise. Plays accordion and electric piano but it is the clarity and purity of her voice that has most reviewers raving. She appears tonight with Sarah Wright, one of many musical collaborators, who will bring a complementary set of instruments and harmonies to what should be a delightful evening.
[Ho Ho. Here it is in English: April 24 - Bill Jones and Sarah Wright. Bill originally hails from Sunderland, and studied Jazz at University. On 1 May we have a singaround - theme death and destruction.
But on May 8 we have yet another big one: Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies. One of the very best singer-songwriters in the business, with an excellent dry wit. Very good to see him with his ever-changing line-up of Pennies, who always add colour and musical humour to proceedings. Featured support from Sue Burgess, an unaccompanied singer with a good voice and excellent timing.
Two big evenings here. I hope you can make both of them.
