The Jubilee is well and truly over, Euro 2012 is over as far as England is concerned, so with only the small matter of the Olympics to look forward to, what better way of filling the void than following live music events at the Topic over the next month?  Here's what's on offer:

5th July.  Singers and Musicians.
Your chance to do stuff, or just enjoy other people doing stuff. (8.15 pm start)

12th July. Roger Sutcliffe. 
The blues legend needs little introduction. Back on his home territory -he now lives in Whitby - he is sure to give us his usual full-on performance of songs and tunes in the blues tradition.

19th July. David Newey & Shona Kipling. 
Two superb musicians join forces for what will be a very special Topic night. David is one of the UK's most sought-after singers, songwriters and guitarists, while Shona is one of the most respected accordion players in the UK. Both have been finalists in the BBC Radio Young Folk Awards. Together they produce a powerful and highly original sound: they will surely provide us with a memorable evening.

26th July. Robb Johnson. 
Robb makes his now annual summer trek from the south coast with his own inimitable brand of protest songs and songs of social comment, some serious, some humorous, but all relevant to life's rich pattern, guaranteed to entertain and provide food for thought.

August will consist of informal singers and musicians nights every Thursday (starting at 8.15 pm) with the exception of the final week (30th). On that night, two very special guests, Dana and Susan Robinson pay us a return visit. Dana and Sue, who hail from North Carolina, are the finest exponents of Americana with traditional and original songs and tunes, superb harmonies and accompaniment on guitars, banjo, fiddle and mandolin. This was the only opportunity for us to book them on their 2012 tour, which is why we are, unusually, having one guest night in August this year. 

Coming in September: Roger Davies (6th); Jaywalkers (13th); Anna Elias & the Forlorn Hope (20th); Gren Bartley (27th)

If you would like to become a member of the Topic Folk Club, it costs just £5.00 per year, running from 1st January. Being a member entitles you to the lower ticket prices shown in this newsletter, as well as the chance to become more involved in the workings of the club if you would like to.

If you’re visiting the club for the first time, be sure to come and say hello, and if anyone has any suggestions for the club, for example if you would like us to try to book a particular artist, we’d like to hear them.

The Topic runs on Thursdays at the BRADFORD IRISH CLUB.  8.30pm start. (Singers & Musicians nights start at 8.15pm). Like all the clubs in the area, our aim is to provide good quality live entertainment to suit all tastes of those interested in folk music, and we thank you for your continued support.

Floor singers are always welcome, especially in the first half. Please try to get there by 8.15pm if you’d like a slot – it helps the MC to plan the evening.
