TOPIC FOLK CLUB, BRADFORD
NEWSLETTER No 34 October 2004
Greetings and apologies for the brevity and lateness of what follows:
October 14 The Hall Brothers A genuine pair of brothers from near Skipton, writing and performing intelligent songs with a considerable leavening of wit. Not only singers and guitarists, they'll play an assortment of bass, whistles, percussion and mandolins. They consider themselves on the boundaries of acoustic rock as much as folk; but will fit well into the sort of stuff we like.
Featured Support this week is from Shaun T Hunter: a fine and powerful singer/songwriter whose work is also a little way from the folk core. He's been before for a floor spot, and we liked him then. We'll like him again, I am sure.
October 21 Time for another Singers‚ and Musicians‚ Night. This time the theme is Parting, Separation, Leaving, Farewell, that sort of thing. As always, the theme is not compulsory you may depart from it if you wish. (Ho ho. Better get that in before anyone else does.) Our S and M nights have been doing well of late, with many a fine new performer or group coming and giving us a try-out.
October 28 Whitney Gin. A longstanding four-piece male acapella group with a wide-ranging repertoire covering folk and many other styles besides. Great listening, and some good choruses too if my memory serves me. Largely a capella (they found it was less hassle to travel without instruments) and very entertaining with it.
Featured Support tonight is from Anne Curran, who used to be fairly regular with us. Singer, guitarist and purveyor of her own and others‚ songs.
