Newsletter No. 131 – April 2013
Hello again everyone,
Now that British Summer Time has arrived - with the snow still in drifts! - you'll be wanting a break from all those chores the lighter nights bring. So put down that lawn mower (!), put that spade away and pop down to the Topic to ease your aching muscles and for aesthetic regeneration with the live music we have lined up for you this month.
Your writing is magnificent, your settings and playing equal to that and the both of you sing with rare assured passion that I oft think has gone – John Tams.
Winter Wilson are a superb duo deserving of national recognition – and make no mistake, Dave Wilson is in the very top tier of British songwriters – BBC Radio Lincolnshire.
Brilliant! - Vin Garbutt
To the already full sound of Duncan’s own tremendous guitar playing, Anne contributed some excellent sympathetic bow-stroking and some lovely supporting harmony vocals - Living Tradition
Coming in May: Kyle Carey/Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker; Steve & Ruth Smith (USA); Reg Meuross;James Hickman & Dan Cassidy
More details in the next newsletter or see http://www.topic-folk-club.org.uk
The purpose of running this event is to try to bring something new to those interested in what is the broad spectrum of folk music, it also allows the club to step outside it's comfort zone of just running club nights. If it's successful, we'll hopefully be able to host more different events in the future. So we hope we will get plenty of support. Please tell your friends about it.
Tickets are available for this event. Prices are as follows:
The workshop will take place from 3 pm to 5 pm and the concert will start at 7 pm.
Advance tickets available at the Topic on Thursday nights.
To reserve tickets email firstname.lastname@example.org or ring Rob Martin 01274 593585

With regard to the film Acoustic Routes mentioned in the last newsletter, this is now available on Amazon from 8th April.
If you would like to become a member of the Topic Folk Club, it costs just £5.00 per year, running from 1st January. Being a member entitles you to the lower ticket prices shown in this newsletter, as well as the chance to become more involved in the workings of the club if you would like to.
If you’re visiting the club for the first time, be sure to come and say hello, and if anyone has any suggestions for the club, for example if you would like us to try to book a particular artist, we’d like to hear them.
The Topic runs on Thursdays at the BRADFORD IRISH CLUB. 8.30pm start. (Singers & Musicians nights start at 8.15pm). Like all the clubs in the area, our aim is to provide good quality live entertainment to suit all tastes of those interested in folk music, and we thank you for your continued support.
Floor singers are always welcome, especially in the first half. Please try to get there by 8.15pm if you’d like a slot – it helps the MC to plan the evening.
