TOPIC FOLK CLUB, BRADFORD At Glyde House, Glydegate, Bradford BD5 0BQ http://www.topic-folk-club.org.uk Newsletter No. 145 - June 2014 Hello all, Halfway through the year already, lots going on at Glyde House and the Topic out and about at Bradford Festival; let's take a look and see what's happening. 5th June: Singers and Musicians. 8.15 pm start. Free entry. 12th June: Alan Reid and Rob van Sante. The duo combines fine harmony singing with sensitive and imaginative arrangements. £6/£5 19th June: Desi Friel 26th June: Roger Sutcliffe TOPIC NEWS Topic Round and About in Bradford 2014. The Topic will be well represented at this year's Bradford Festival, with three of our regular and favourite acts appearing in City Park on Sunday 15th June, starting at 3.30 p.m. Plumhall, Bella Gaffney and Roger Davies will be under the Topic banner, so come along and enjoy what promises to be a grand afternoon's entertainment. Make a note, too, of the Shuttle Shuffle Festival, which will take place over the weekend of 9th/10th August. The Topic will again be well represented at what promises to be even better event than last year's inaugural festival. Non-Topic stuff which may be of interest. The Gargrave Autoharp Festival, described as the North of England flagship autoharp event, runs from 27th - 29th June. A Folk Dance Weekend consisting of dances and workshops is to be held in Drax, Yorkshire over the weekend of 4th, 5th and 6th July. This is the inaugural event of what is hoped will become a regular weekend of dance. Visit http://yfdw.org.uk for more details. The local folk world hasn't escaped Tour de France fever: there will be an evening of French andYorkshire Dales traditional dance at Addingham Memorial Hall from 6.30 pm on 15th June in anticipation of Le Grand Depart. Usual Other Stuff For performers who may be thinking of approaching the club for a booking, please note that the bookings organiser is now Sue Gaffney, email address : sue.gaffney@btinternet.com If you would like to become a member of the Topic Folk Club, it costs just £5.00 per year, running from 1st January. Being a member entitles you to the lower ticket prices shown in this newsletter, as well as the chance to become more involved in the workings of the club if you would like to. If you’re visiting the club for the first time, be sure to come and say hello, and if anyone has any suggestions for the club, for example if you would like us to try to book a particular artist, we’d like to hear them. The Topic runs on Thursdays at Glyde House, Glydegate, Little Horton Lane, BD5 0BQ 8.30pm start. (Singers & Musicians nights start at 8.15pm). Like all the clubs in the area, our aim is to provide good quality live entertainment to suit all tastes of those interested in folk music, and we thank you for your continued support. Floor singers are always welcome, especially in the first half. Please try to get there by 8.15pm if you’d like a slot – it helps the MC to plan the evening.
