Newsletter No 216  - June 2020

Hello all, once again I sincerely hope you're all keeping well and safe.

There's still nothing much to report or say about future Topic happenings for the moment but plenty going on in cyberspace...

A reminder about some streamed events, also one or two new ones:

Zbig continues to provide an opportunity for anyone to make a video and put it up as a sort of virtual performance slot on his Queensbury Unplugged site which is supporting unplugged music and poetry replacing live music events in Bradford. You can contact him on queensbury.unplugged@gmail.com.

Karen Pfeiffer & Paul Walker continue to do a regular afternoon spot on Tuesdays and Fridays at 4pm

 https://www.paulwalkermusic.co.uk/

and Honey & The Bear bring their excellent music every Sunday evening at 7.30 pm https://honeyandthebear.co.uk/

QUOTE

Every Thursday evening from 8:15pm, we have been sharing a new concert "Live from the Lounge", via a Facebook Watch Party and Youtube. You can watch all the back issues on our Youtube Channel here or view the Watch Parties (and thus see comments etc) on our Facebook page here. These shows are a mix of covers and originals, but all based around requests, so if there's any songs you'd like to hear us perform in future shows, please let us know.

We're not asking for payment for watching the shows, but if anybody would like to donate via Paypal (123djw@gmail.com) we are dividing the funds raised between the MU Musicians' Hardship Fund and our local foodbank. Alternatively, if you would like to help us out, our shop is still open for CDs and T-shirts here.

In the meantime, please enjoy the videos. Feel free to send us any requests or suggestions (via email, Facebook, Twitter....), and we hope to see you all again in the real world before too long.

UNQUOTE

Tonight (1st June ) Fil Campbell and and Tom McFarland are streaming a concert from Rostrevor Folk Club at 8 pm: its's their local club and they are the first guests in a series of online concerts to be streamed from the club. Fil and Tom would have been at the Topic a few weeks ago, in April. https://www.facebook.com/filcampbell/live

Most live concerts seem to be available to watch after the event, just check out the artists' facebook page  or youtube.

Louise Jordan.

As you may remember from previous correspondence Louise Jordan has been busy with online celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth last month. Louise's new show, entitled "Florence" and her extensive research into the life of this iconic woman provided the ideal material to mark the event. After a frantic week of related activities, Louise is turning her attention back to the promotion of her show about the life of another extraordinary historical character, Hannah Mitchell, entitled "The Hard Way" with which she would have been touring the country as we speak (including bringing it to the Topic this very month). She has been working with Spot On Lancashire to film a 10 minute extract for the show, which will be available exclusively via the Spot On website for the next 25 days so you can check it out on  https://spotonlancashire.co.uk/whats-on/the-hard-way/

Last but by no means least, the Topic itself is going virtual! Well, a bit! Plans are in hand to stream singers and musicians nights via Zoom, beginning in July. We will be attempting a very limited dry run beforehand to make sure it will go smoothly (!) and you will be informed in the next newsletter of details of how you can access it.The date of the stream will be 2nd July, just after the July newsletter, so be sure to watch this space, and, like us, keep everything crossed: it will be a tense moment.

Lots of info and links etc this time, any problems with them let me know.

Best wishes to everyone, continue to take care of yourselves, stay safe and well.
