Hello to you all, I’ve just taken over from Joe as Newsletter and bookings monitor, so this is my first effort. Firstly a big thank you to Joe for having been responsible for some brilliant nights’ entertainment during his stint as bookings person; if I manage to do half as well, the future quality of our guest list is assured.

So, as Spring begins to beguile our senses, the daffodils begin to display their beauty, the sun gains in strength, what has the Topic in store?

1st March.  Singers and Musicians
Informal and enjoyable. Bring your instruments, your voices, or just your ears. Free entry, 8.15 start.

8th March. The Jon Palmer Acoustic Band
Jon, who has visited us a few times over the past few months and treated us to some impressive floor spots, brings his 6 piece band for a full Topic gig. Jon is an established song-writer, former winner of the Grolsch UK Songwriter of the Year and a published songwriter with Sony. The band will no doubt be promoting their new CD Working for the Gangmaster, produced by Gerry McNeice. Entry £5/£6

15th March. Singers and Musicians Night
A special event to celebrate St. Patrick’s Night. Well, what else would you do in an Irish Club? Bring along those jigs and reels and timeless Irish ballads (and anything else Irish that you can think of) to make it a great night. And if you can’t think of anything Irish to do, bring it anyway. Free entry

22nd March. Stanley Accrington 
Gloom, what gloom ?  A master craftsman at lifting spirits, Stanley admits to being a leg-end in his own trousers. Every folkie over the age of about five will be familiar with Stanley’s wit and wisdom, his hands-on approach to audience participation, his wry observations on humanoid and non-humanoid life, to say nothing of his more serious side, self-written songs that will turn your tears of  laughter into, well, a sniffle at least. £5/£6

29th March. Nick Caffrey and Ed McGurk
British Summer Time will now be with us, so for the first of the lighter Topic Club evenings Nick and Ed bring their mixture of traditional and contemporary songs from over t’border with their particular brand of humour and harmonies. £5/£6

If you would like to become a member of the Topic Folk Club, it costs just £5.00 per year, running from 1st January. Being a member entitles you to the lower ticket prices shown in this newsletter, as well as the chance to become more involved in the workings of the club if you would like to.

If you’re visiting the club for the first time, be sure to come and say hello, and if anyone has any suggestions for the club, for example if you would like us to try to book a particular artist, we’d like to hear them.

The Topic runs on Thursdays at the BRADFORD IRISH CLUB.  8.30pm start. (Singers & Musicians nights start at 8.15pm). Like all the clubs in the area, our aim is to provide good quality live entertainment to suit all tastes of those interested in folk music, and we thank you for your continued support.

Floor singers are always welcome, especially in the first half. Please try to get there by 8.15pm if you’d like a slot – it helps the MC to plan the evening.
