At the Bradford Irish Club, Rebecca Street, Bradford BD1 2RX - a wheelchair-friendly venue
Nearly half-way through the year already. Lighter evenings, warmer days and relaxing Thursday nights down at the Topic. Hope to see you there.
4th June Singers and Musicians. These evenings have been popular of late and over the past few months it's been great to welcome some new-to-the-Topic performers. If you're one of these we hope you found the experience was a good one. Please come again. If you haven't been yet it would be nice to see you. It's quite an informal evening, a good time to try out new things if you're a singer or instrumentalist. Of course you may just want to come to listen and perhaps join in with a chorus or two. Entry is free.
11th June Gareth Davies-Jones. Propaganda magazine describes him as one of the UK‚s best-kept musical secrets. Here at the Topic we were let into that secret just over a year ago when he gave a very impressive performance as part of a Double Header evening with Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts. "..rich and soulful vocals, his fine ear for melody, wide-ranging musical palette......it‚s clear Davies-Jones is a prodigious talent.‰ says Rock and Reel magazine. Gareth skillfully writes sensitively catchy songs tackling subjects about which he obviously feels strongly, and performs them in a gentle yet powerful style.. £5/£6
18th June Kimber's Men. This fine Yorkshire shanty group always popular at the Topic with their rousing join-inable shanties and songs of the sea, delivered in a friendly and humorous manner that should send you home (at the end of the evening) feeling uplifted. £5/£6
25th June A Double Header evening, always an enjoyable and varied. You may well have heard something of Amy Atkinson & Midnight Special either at the Topic or somewhere else locally. They are a talented young trio whose unique style brings together an eclectic mix of folk, blues, jazz, swing and rockabilly plus a developing collection of their own self-penned material. Ian McKone is a newcomer to the Topic. He's a young traditional singer, who arranges and performs Scots, Northumbrian and English songs accompanied by guitar and fiddle, with the odd instrumental thrown in for good measure. £5/£6
2nd July Roger Sutcliffe. Bradford's favourite blues man comes to entertain you on his annual Topic visit. £5/£6
9th July Vin Garbutt. This evening there is sure to be much humour and highly entertaining anecdotes, as well as thought provoking songs with a serious message from this international, award winning, singer songwriter from the North-East. This is an event for which you'd be advised to buy a ticket in advance. They cost £10 and can be purchased any Thursday evening at the Topic or by emailing rahel@blueyonder.co.uk
