Hello, and May Day greetings to you all., 

May 2012, the calm before the storm, with the Jubilee razzamatazz and Olympian sporting contests looming to dominate the months ahead, this is the time for a period of quiet reflection, and what better way to reflect than to bask in the delights the Topic has to offer for the next few Thursdays?

3rd May    Singers and Musicians. 
Don't miss the chance to come and try out a few new songs, brush up on old ones, or just listen to them all. 8.15 pm start. Free entry.

10th May   Leon Rosselson. 
Leon is no stranger to Topic audiences: he has now been performing for more than 50 years, although it is 10 years since his last appearance at the club. He has been writing songs of social and political comment with touches of humour since the 1960's. His songs have been sung and recorded by the likes of  Roy Bailey, Dick Gaughan and Billy Bragg  £5/£6

17th May    Dave Ellis and Boo Howard. 
London-based duo with a large following in the south of England making their first visit to the Topic. Dave and Boo have received rave reviews for their well-crafted songs, intricate arrangements and clever musicianship. £5/£6

24th May     Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts. 
Definitely no strangers to the local folk scene, this highly talented duo are hugely entertaining, with original songs, lovely harmonies and stunning accompaniments on fiddle and guitar. An eagerly awaited return to the Topic, deservedly so. £5/£6

31st May     Joe Topping. 
Multi-instrumentalist and fine singer-songwriter from the Wirral, Joe played with the late John Wright's band, and is currently a member of the renowned Elbow Jane and Ashley Hutching's Rainbow Chasers. Luckily for us, Joe manages to fit in some appearances as a solo performer. Expect sensitive, well-crafted songs and intricate guitar accompaniment. £5/£6

June: Paula Ryan, Brian Peters, Martyn Wyndham-Read.

July: Roger Sutcliffe, David Newey and Shona Kipling, Robb Johnson

If you would like to become a member of the Topic Folk Club, it costs just £5.00 per year, running from 1st January. Being a member entitles you to the lower ticket prices shown in this newsletter, as well as the chance to become more involved in the workings of the club if you would like to.

If you’re visiting the club for the first time, be sure to come and say hello, and if anyone has any suggestions for the club, for example if you would like us to try to book a particular artist, we’d like to hear them.

The Topic runs on Thursdays at the BRADFORD IRISH CLUB.  8.30pm start. (Singers & Musicians nights start at 8.15pm). Like all the clubs in the area, our aim is to provide good quality live entertainment to suit all tastes of those interested in folk music, and we thank you for your continued support.

Floor singers are always welcome, especially in the first half. Please try to get there by 8.15pm if you’d like a slot – it helps the MC to plan the evening.
