Newsletter No. 105 - December 2010
If you can manage to plough your way throught the white stuff, you'll find the next few weeks at the Topic will be well worth the effort. Take a look below to see what's in store. As the year draws to a close, so too do my two years of artist bookings for the Topic. With the New Year we welcome Joe Grint as new Newsletter Correspondent and Bookings Officer. He has already got together an exciting and varied programme of guests for the months to come. Thank you all for your support of the Topic so far... long may it continue!
2nd December Bowie Bliss & Cockerham Not to be missed, no matter what else is happening in the area, because it could be your only chance to see this fleetingly formed Yorkshire trio, the extremely talented parts of which you are likely to have seen perfoming solo or with other bands around our region & beyond. An exciting evening of entertainment awaits. £6/£5
9th December Kieran Halpin A regular and popular visitor to the Topic over the years, Kieran Halpin has a voice with such an edge to it that he sounds like he is living every song. He has managed to marry his intelligent and thought-provoking lyrics with great melodies and has developed over the years into a writer with a style of his own. All of this is underscored by an incisive wit in his introductions which helps an audience to understand where the song comes from and hint at where it might be going. £6/£5
16th December Roger Davies It's unlikely you won't have come across Roger Davies before if you are a regular visitor to the Topic or other Yorkshire music events. Talented and charismatic, Roger finds endless ways of portraying the beauty he sees in, and bringing out the poetry of, his beloved part of Yorkshire. His songs are well crafted stories and observations which draw you into his world along with their memorable melodies. Some you will almost certainly want to join in with and others will have you spell-bound. Roger's skilful guitar style unobtrusively accompanies his fine works of art. £6/£5
