TOPIC FOLK CLUB, BRADFORD At Glyde House, Glydegate, Bradford BD5 0BQ Newsletter No. 149 - October 2014 Hello all, Looks like we're about to finally say goodbye to summer as autumn approaches. What is there to do on the darker Thursday evenings? Get down to the Topic, that's what. Some new talent on display this month. 2nd October: Singers and Musicians 9th October: Bright Season 16th October: Roisin Ban The starting point, and shared love of the band, is music from the Irish tradition, but if they stumble upon a number which suits them, they're happy to tackle other styles. The 'craic' is an important concept for the boys and no toe is left un-tapped in a Róisín Bán show. £6/£5 23rd October: Haddo 30th October: Luke Jackson With two highly-acclaimed CDs, radio play, appearances at Cambridge and Sidmouth folk festivals, Luke is establishing himself as one of the brightest young prospects on the acoustic music scene in recent years. £6/£5 TOPIC NEWS I have dealt with the sad news about Mick Walker in separate emails, and to date have no more information for you. To reiterate: the funeral will be on 9th October at 10.50 am at Nab Wood Crematorium, which is at 283 Bingley Road (the A650), Shipley, BD18 4BG. No flowers, donations to Cancer Research. A fiddle, a small guitar and an accordion have been donated to the club. All require some attention: if there are any budding or established instrument repairers out there who wouldn't mind giving some time to getting them up and running, we would be grateful to hear from you. A reminder that the new edition of Tykes News is available to purchase on club nights at the price of £2.00 This excellent magazine contains articles, features, new items and full details of folk-related events and clubs in our area. Please support the hardworking team who produce this quality publication for the benefit of acoustic music followers in West Yorkshire by buying a copy. Usual Other Stuff For performers who may be thinking of approaching the club for a booking, please note that the bookings organiser is now Sue Gaffney, email address : sue.gaffney@btinternet.com If you would like to become a member of the Topic Folk Club, it costs just £5.00 per year, running from 1st January.
