Hello again everyone,

The clocks may have just gone back, but here at the Topic we're looking forward to some great Thursday nights of live acoustic music, when it won't matter that it's dark and cold outside. Have a look and see what's in store to warm us up over the coming months.

1st November 
Special Singers and Musicians Night
As previously mentioned, this is going to be a tribute night to Alex Eaton, founder of the Topic, who passed away last year. We are hoping that Louise, Alex's widow and other members of the family, as well as some of Alex's friends will be coming to make this a memorable night in honour of the man to whom this club owes so much. 8.15 start, free entry.

8th November
Soundsphere
Soundsphere is a delightful 4-piece all-female a capella group from York - a capella, that is, with occasional and imaginative percussion to enhance the songs where appropriate. With carefully thought-out arrangements, the group take their songs from many countries, with a few self-penned pieces for good measure. This is their second visit to the club, whilst two of the group’s members, Paula Ryan and Sarah Dean, have performed here in their own right. £5/£6

15th November
Roger Wilson
A long overdue visit from this wearer of many hats: singer, fiddle player, songwriter, producer and actor who has been involved with many top names in the folk world, including Martin Carthy, Kate Rusby, Pete Morton and Karen Tweed. Roger has also worked in a number of musical/theatrical projects, including a nationwide tour of Lark Rise to Candleford and for the past two years he has been involved in the stage production of War Horse. £5/£6

22nd November
Steve Tilston
No introduction needed for this local favourite, who has now been performing professionally for more than 40 years. Widely regarded as one of our most successful singer/songwriters, this year Steve won Best Original Song for The Reckoning at this Years BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Steve has also won accolades in Europe, Australia and the USA, and his songs have been covered by a multitude of top folk artists.  £5/£6

29th November
Gerry McNiece Band
Another favourite from the locality: a fine songwriter and multi instrumentalist returning to the Topic with his new-look band and, no doubt, a mixture of  traditional and contemporary material.  £5/£6

A reminder to Topic members that this year's AGM takes place on Monday 19th November at 8.00 pm at the Bradford Irish Club.

If you would like to become a member of the Topic Folk Club, it costs just £5.00 per year, running from 1st January. Being a member entitles you to the lower ticket prices shown in this newsletter, as well as the chance to become more involved in the workings of the club if you would like to. Anyone joining now will obtain membership at a reduced rate for this year.

If you’re visiting the club for the first time, be sure to come and say hello, and if anyone has any suggestions for the club, for example if you would like us to try to book a particular artist, we’d like to hear them.

The Topic runs on Thursdays at the BRADFORD IRISH CLUB.  8.30pm start. (Singers & Musicians nights start at 8.15pm). Like all the clubs in the area, our aim is to provide good quality live entertainment to suit all tastes of those interested in folk music, and we thank you for your continued support.

Floor singers are always welcome, especially in the first half. Please try to get there by 8.15pm if you’d like a slot – it helps the MC to plan the evening.
