TOPIC FOLK CLUB, BRADFORD
NEWSLETTER No 28 - April 2004
Greetings
Not a proper newsletter this time just a reminder. Fuller details of all acts are, as always, available via the website.
April 22 The Duncan McFarlane Band. According to his latest publicity circular, he is coming tonight with the full Duncan McFarlane Band. This is great news - I mean Duncan is of course enormous value even on his own, but together with his band (at least, on the demo CD I have) he is really something else. If this isn't a misprint in Duncan's circular (and they do sometimes occur see apologies below) then this Thursday really will be a great evening. No time to choose the mots justes - enthusiastic, energetic, musicians enjoying themselves - just believe me and get down to the Topic if you can.
Featured Support will be Eddie Lawler, the Saltaire poet. A quiet performer, but with a story to tell. Eddie tackles contemporary and local themes with careful choice of words.
April 29 Roy Bailey. I don't have to tell you all about him do I? Billed by Tony Benn (with whom he sometimes performs, though not tonight) as Britain's greatest socialist folk singer, Roy has a range of songs and banter the envy of folk singers everywhere. The word on the circuit is that he is performing as well as ever.
Featured support: Darren Poyzer. A once and future headline act, Darren is Manchester‚s favourite contemporary songwriter. A great double bill, this.
AND ONWARDS
May 6 Singers and Musicians. Theme: English songs.
I'll do another mailing with onward details in a fortnight when I've got my head round being back in the UK again.
APOLOGIES
My last Newsletter, written in a vast rush, from memory, hours before I departed to China, contained at least two wrong dates and three mis-spellings of performers or bands. As a number of recipients (mostly those wrongly billed or spelt) were quick to point out. Only consolation - it proves this Newsletter is read! Anyway, I am back now, and the colour of the new guitar is - well, you'll just have to come to the Topic (or the Gaping Goose) sometime and see!
See you all some Thursday at the Melborn at one of the above events. 8.30 start. Be there by then if you want to perform a floor spot, which are still available every night even where there is a Featured Support artist booked. No smoking.
