TOPIC FOLK CLUB, BRADFORD At the Bradford Irish Club, Rebecca Street, BD1 2RX Newsletter No. 128 – January 2013 Hello again everyone. Well, with the Christmas celebrations over, this can be a rather dull time of year. Take a look at what the Topic has on offer to beat those post-Christmas blues and lighten the January gloom. 3rd January 10th January 17th January Will is a local multi-instrumentalist and Professor of American Literature and Culture at the University of Central Lancashire. He has given his presentation at many venues in the UK and America and has been awarded the Woody Guthrie Research Fellowship by the Woody Guthrie Foundation.In 2011 he wrote the first political biography of Guthrie entitled Woody Guthrie, American Radical. His work has been highly praised by such luminaries as Tom Paxton, Pete Seeger and Ralph McTell. £5/£6 24th January 31st January Wendy is a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist well-known to West Yorkshire audiences (including the Topic) who comes originally from Glasgow but is now living in NorthYorkshire. She is considered to be a fine interpreter of traditional songs and performs a mixture of British folk songs and her own offerings. Over recent years she has won songwriting competitions at Saltburn, Scarborough and Rydale festivals. £5/£6 Coming in February: Plumhall, Louise Jordan, Jez Lowe. The Topic runs on Thursdays at the BRADFORD IRISH CLUB. 8.30pm start. (Singers & Musicians nights start at 8.15pm). Like all the clubs in the area, our aim is to provide good quality live entertainment to suit all tastes of those interested in folk music, and we thank you for your continued support. Floor singers are always welcome, especially in the first half. Please try to get there by 8.15pm if you’d like a slot – it helps the MC to plan the evening.
